Sinfest is so cute today. Read the previous few, too.
In other news, Little Gamers is having its two year anniversary tomorrow. As they say themselves, its "cute 'n shit."

Memento is great. It's not my new favorite but it is certainly very high up there.
I've been wanting to see it for a while now. When it was out in theaters, I didn't understand why people saw it over and over and over. Now I do. I got to watch it again sometime just to make sure I got it correctly or if I missed the point completely.

im glad i know people like this.
Baker D rocks!
Yesterday, I totally forgot to pick up pies for the Biomatrix Thanksgiving dinner. Since someone told me Star Market was closed today and LaVerde's is definitly closed, I was gonna have to either go really far or "be creative." Haha. So, I was coming into Baker from the serving homeless people food at CASPAR and one of the cooks is outside taking a break. And, luckily, I ask him if he know anywhere that is open. And I tell him that I need to get some pies.
It's a good thing that they were open for Thanksgiving dinner. Because they had some pies in the back freezer that they had not sliced yet. And they gave me a deal too.
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone

time for more vector bashing. i know ive been doing this a lot lately but i cant help it, getting something done with them takes forever and every once in a while i get pissed and feel like declaring it.
so, im tryinig to deal with the problem. so i call them and the first guy sends me to another guy. ok. he cannot access the system because they are printing checks for the week to all the reps and can do so for another 1.5 hours. he says he will call me back and when he does, gives me a partial refund. but that wont take place for another few days. in the meantime, i need to make sure that i dont have to pay the original bill for the returned commission. so he says that i can call the accounts department and gives me the number. says that if i dont pay for too long they send the bill to a "collection service." what does that mean? do they come to MIT and beat me up until i give them the money? they dont even know that i go to MIT.
phase 2: i give the accounts department a call. but "all their representatives are busy" so i get put on hold. this is the worst system ever. im on hold and periodically they make another call into to system to see if a rep is free. thus theoretically i can never be helped while someone who just called could. arg, its not that hard to make a queue and help people in order, geeze. so every once in a while it asks me if i want to stay on the line or leave a message. so i have to press 1 to stay on hold. i do. then a few seconds later, a voice says "please hold for the next availible representative." like duh!. what the hell do they think im doing? after holding for almost 20 minutes, it asks me about leaving the message again. i press 1 like im supposed to to stay on hold. then it says it didnt pick up my choice. i press 1 again. this happens like 10 times. 10. i think i know how to press 1, so it must be them. then it just conks out and i have to call again. stupid.

vector is so bad. if a sales representative needs to call the main office they charge them for it. Well not really, but there is not 800 number. That is just lame. Stupid.
I would just have to say, among the worst decisions in my life thus far is to decide to work for Vector. I made more money working at Panda Express than I ever did selling Cutco. [Office Space, hehe] And it wasn't annoyingly stupid.

Ocean's 11 and Thomas Crown Affair are damn good movies.
In other news, it's cool to look outside and see a large expanse of white. The athletic fields, tennis courts, turf, and football field are covered in snow. It looks totally different than before.

I'm gonna break the cycle
I'm gonna shake up the system
I'm gonna destroy my ego
I'm gonna close my body now
For every sin, I'll have to pay
I've come to work, I've come to play
I think I'll find another way
It's not my time to go
I guess I'll Die Another Day

i can't think of anything
Everyone is going home for Thanksgiving. I wish I was.
This week has sucked so far. And it's still tues. And its a short week. And I should not have had this much work to do. I can't believe the 8.01X prof assigned us work last week even though it was test week. Then she extended the due date for the lab. That lab write up was a bitch. There was like calculations with minute numbers. It really sucked. My write up is about 4 pages of graphs and pure number crunching. At least our data had only 0.5% error. So what is up with Film Experience tests. It's not just an essay test. That would make sense. The prof added identifications, which means, he gives us an obscure name of an actor, director, film, etc. and we need to write down three things about it. Finally, 8.01X again. Cybertutor is the most worthless thing ever created. I figure out the problem in just a few minutes. Then, it takes me forever to type it correctly for the computer to accept it. They should just give more problems on the PSet. At least our recitation leader, who is teaching 8.02X, is considering not having Cybertutor or at least making it all for practice.
Alright, enough bitching. Time to take a quick nap.

Baker people who didn't go to Baker D last night missed out. Frep brunch, oh yeah! We made waffles for everyone. There was so much waffle eating that I had to go out and buy more mix at 1:30 in the morning.

two more things:
Lanyard-less for the first time in almost two years. Yup, I changed by keyring to something else. It doesn't feel as weird yet, but I'm sure I'm going to start noticing stuff. I know I'm gonna think I lost my keys a lot.
I just saw like 3-4 shopping carts in the lounge. MIT students (or maybe just Baker people) steal them so they don't have carry their groceries. Which made me think, how come Star Market doesn't do something about that. Then, I thought, well, those things that some places have where you put a quarter in, they don't work. I'm sure that everyone would gladly pay that quarter so they don't need to carry stuff.

Muses concert = Awesome.
I liked the funny little skits that they did to lead up to the songs. Hahaha. Yeah, all you people who went to Dance Troupe can suck it. Just kidding, actually, I wish they hadn't sold out of Friday tickets so I could be able to go to both.
So, I got some more pants today. Yeah, like I wear pants now. It feels sort of strange but I'll get used to it, I guess.
So, I started drawing again. Like I stopped since summer. I needed the break I guess. My drawings were all crappy at that point or would take forever to get looking right. I talked sort of talked about this in my xanga. Yeah, I have xanga too. Why would I have both? So I can make comments on other people's xangas for the most part. Well, back to what I was saying. I wish I had a scanner so I could save my drawings in the computer. Like it would suck to lose all your sketches.
An interesting sidenote: I've been saying that I'm at 4000 hits. And I am by okcounter but according to sitemeter I passed that a while ago (you gotta add the listed number plus the number I listed as the start of the counter, I went through several counter services before it). I'm gonna go by sitemeter because its more reliable than any other counter except if you create one on your own server. So, however many people have visited, thanks. It's interesting why I started this journal. I was inspired by cremo and I was going to post funny AIM conversations. And that I did, or at least I thought they were funny. Then, I did a bunch of online personality tests, like SV once did. Interspersed and probably rarely, I would post about actual stuff. Now, I do it all the time. And there are long posts like this one, amazing. Also, I care less now if people read it than I did before. I almost never check my counter (i just happened to see it when I check if something posted correctly, which is not very often). It's just a journal to me for the most part now. I'll be able to look back and know some of what my life was like.
Also, I wish I worked for The Tech. It would be easy to join but I'm that lazy about it.

My dad just told me that I got a jury duty notice. For the second day that I get back to SD. That sucks. I dont want to spend my break in a courtroom.
In other news, I hate Vector. Vector was the company that I worked for in the summer that sold Cutco knives. Apparently, if a customer returns a product, they take your commission back. That's right, they pay you then they want the money back. That's worse than working for nothing, it's like I'm paying them. So like, after I got most of my pay, a few people decide to get their moneyback guarantee. So my payroll has a negative balance. I didn't care then because I got what I should have been paid. But now, my dad says there's a letter saying that they want the money back like $100 something dollars. That's a huge chunk of the little bit of money I made last summer working that job. Don't ever work for Vector. Ever.
Supposedly, Vector has a good business model that is used as an example in some management books. (Course 15 people beware, the book loses all crediblity, in my opinion, if it features Vector). So like, all the managers were once salespeople and they have held positions at every level of the hierarchy below them. Also, that means they are better salespeople than the people below them and can thus motivate (manipulate) them better. Well, I stopped being manipulated and just stopped working. Like never called to check in or report sales or attending meetings. They didn't like it but they couldn't do anything. Like Office Space, I just stopped going, and apparently I'm still an employee or something, I just don't get paid.
Anyway, back to the topic. This system breaks down when the lowest sales reps don't like it (like me). If the people at the bottem stopped selling, then the people higher up stop making money. So, piss off the sales reps and that's the end of the system. And this happens a lot because apparently they are always recruiting. Example, I got a recruitment letter from them after I was already hired by them. Plus, eventually, they run out of people who need knives since these knives are so great that you never need another set (it better be for $200 a knife. yes, one knife).
That's right, they taught us to lie to people to get sales. They told us to say that regular knives break and need to be replaced over and over and over and over and over and over and over. Thus, end up costing more. Still, I can buy a lifetime of knives for less than $200. My mom has a Revereware set that she got from JC Penny on sale (that's paraphrasing Zoolander if you didn't catch it) for $20 that work just as well or better.
[added]Oh yeah, for those of you unfortunate enough to have worked for Vector, go watch Boiler Room.

The DJ Encore and Engelina Album is there. It's a terrifice album.
Also, two of the funniest videos I've ever seen. I can watch schoolmovie.qt over and over and over. It's terrific.

Theta Xi Blacklight and PKT Tsunami were terrific.
The Theta Xi pledges did a great job painting and drawing all those fluorescent pictures. It looked awesome. So packed with BU people.
Tsunami was just great. Not much else to say.

FTPed some stuff to my MIT server space which can be found here here.
I'll probably change the stuff every few days, maybe make it into a website instead of just a directory. It's going to be linked in the links section (what a logical place) under the "Personal" section. So if you have some kind of weird urge to check it, you don't have to type it out in your browser.

ARRRGG!
My computer is giving me such a hard time right now. There's some adbot on my computer somewere that keeps giving me pop up ads. I know its not just that specific website because the popups happen on pages that I know dont have ads and its not even on specific webpages. I mean, it happens on any random page meaning that unless this company owns all those webpages, its some add bot. I found the website addresses that the adds are being sent from. I need to somehow block that webaddress/IP or find the adbot program and delete it. Ive run adaware probably 10 times and look at most of the files on my computer, even the hidden ones, and I still can't find it.
Then, there is the problem with Dell loaded software. There's an annoying but harmless Dell.com slashscreen everytime I turn on my computer. That's not a big deal. However, I find I need something called messageapp.exe for Windows to run. Everytime I shutoff my comp, it says program not responding and I have to physically end it. The fact that its called messageapp concerns me. It's like it could be spyware or something. Then, each time it stops working it crashes my comp. Well actually, it asks me to end program because its not responding (just like when I want to shutoff). Then, it turned off my computer.
That's not even the worst part, I had to fileplanet downloads 15 minutes away from starting. This is made worse by the fact that the estimated wait to start a download is about 3 hours. This estimate is way off. It's more like 8 hours. I started out at about 700 in the "line." I cannot believe it takes 8 hours to get 700 files sent to people. FilePlanet is stupid and artificially creates about an hour or two long wait for downloads to start, in the hope that you will pay to subscribe to the instant downloading service. I personally think that this is a lame way to make money. So unless I can't find a file somewhere else, I don't use Fileplanet, how's that for winning customer loyalty.
Even worse, my DivX codex is screwed up. I have a bunch of movies that don't play correctly. Normally I play movies in Windows Media Player. However, some of these movies get screwed up when playing in Windows Media Player even with the codex loaded. Like it will only play the sound while not playing the video or the video with no sound. Then, some movies crash at certain points when playing. If I fast forward past that point its fine again. So, I try to play these messed up movies using The Playa, the program made specifically to play divx files. This doesn't even do it correctly. The audio and video dont match up and I need to restart the film and fastforward to the place I was at to get them matching again.
(If you read this far, congradulations.)

I need BSing skills
I think one of the reasons that I do so well on most things but when I dont understand something completely, it totally and utterly confuses me, is that it is really difficult for me to BS anything. I just can't do something that doesnt make sense to me. BSing requires a jump of logic, ignoring something that contradicts and going ahead and doing it. Normally, I am able to figure out something very completely. I understand almost all of it. That makes it easy to take the test or write an essay or whatever. But when something, even a small thing, doesnt work out, it messes the whole thing up for me.
I guess that helps for science. Lots of great discoveries result from people noticing something in the data that doesnt make sense. Then researching and figuring out why it didn't work.
Oh well. Too bad I can't be Will Hunting and have everything be simple and make sense all the time.

So, I have this theory. Sometimes I feel that my existence is only justified by other people. I never said it was a good theory. In fact, it's a pretty fucked up theory. So, do you I really exist if no one knows of me or if anything that I do, say, have, etc has no connection to someone else? It's sort of like, if I had an AIM account but no one knew about it and I didn't have anyone else's screenname. That would be just like I didn't have AIM. So that can translate to real life. So if no one know i exist, do I really exist? Say I see something, then later I find that no one else has ever even heard about it. Could I have been dreaming? Am I really living or is my life completely non-existant?
For example: I think it was about last year. We were flying to China on a vacation. I watched this awesome movie called Full Time Killer. When I got back, I tried to get it off Kazaa or whatever p2p file share program was around then, but I couldn't find it. it was so weird. Like no one had seen or heard of it. I had to ask my brother to make sure we actually saw it. Then a few days ago I stumble upon this website. It makes me feel as if I exist outside of myself. Yeah, I told you it was fucked up.
Anyway, this journal is almost at 4000 hits. That means that other people have read and seen this junk that I churn out every once in a while.

Interesting, there's been cops outside of PBE (or maybe TDC) for two days in a row. Something is wrong.

For your viewing pleasure, the luna lounge is availible on the links page. Huge database of movie screenplays. Now go find some quotes to use as away messages or something.
In other news, Poe started a new comic. Errant Story. Haven't really checked it out, but I know it will be good based on his previous work in Exploitation Now and Babylon Jones.

Yay, just got my Halloween candygram from Abe. That makes me happy. Wonder if he got the one I sent him.
In other news, Daylight Savings time sucks ass. It got dark at around 4pm. That's just wrong. The only good thing is that one extra hour that is created temporarily but then lost again in the spring. Some French people made up the concept during WWII or something. I'm not hating French people, but... ok, whatever, I am hating French people. The tilt of the Earth makes summer days longer than average; conversly, winter days are shorter than average. Why then did these French people choose to make the sun set even earlier in the winter and even later in the summer. Its like a 4 hour difference. Without daylight savings, it would be 2 hours. And if daylight savings were reversed it would be 0 hours difference. (Yes, I know, it corrects for the sun rising, but who the fuck cares, about the morning? People do things in the afternoon and evening, when they arent at school or work.)

Personally, I think the best haircuts are the ones that no one notices. When no one goes, "Hey, did you get a haircut?" Why? Because that means they didn't notice how shaggy it was getting before.
Tiffany Seto is the first person to notice and I got it cut on Saturday. This is great because not even my roommate noticed. Seems that like people room together. Because Irene Yen noticed when I trimmed my sideburns a few weeks ago. Sort of a weird phenomena.
In other news, helecopter is so simple but very addicting. I think that anything that has a high score is potentially addicting. Even if it is the most boring and simple minded thing. I guess you could say that any contest is a motivator due to competition to be better than other people.

"The first rule is that I can't talk about it."
Just watched it for the first time. Can't really say anymore. Let's start some franchises.
[added 11.3.02]
You know the "spliced in" scene at the very end?
I was watching a second time to catch all the cool stuff that you can see once you know the ending. And here's the convo with my roommate.
Near the end of the movie...
Etan: Did they show it?
Me: I hope so.
Me: Shit, I mean, it would suck if they cut it off.
Etan: Yeah, I know.
Both: Hahahaha.
