Started playing badminton at Balboa Park gym. There's a lot more kids playing badminton than I thought. I'm thinking one of the high schools near there has a there has a team or something.

In other (slightly related) news, my dad can only play doubles. All his hits land inside the doubles lines but outside the singles lines.

Haven't posted this for a while:

Got switched from night shift to swing shift. Swing shift blows.

It still messes up your sleep schedule and it gives you this false hope of being able to do something with part of your day that you still have.

Working on a new website layout. This would probably be a good quote for my blog.

Today, I actually got to do CPR compressions. Not for my patient though. My crew was at an ER to drop off some backboards for a paramedic crew cause EMTs in SD are like bitches for paramedics (which is why MA is way better).

They had some guy they were doing CPR on in the ER and they let me jump in for a while. It's nice to be able to say that I've actually done CPR before as a CPR instructor.

In other news,
Happy Father's Day

Arg...stupid laptop. I was just thinking that I hope it doesn't freeze while I'm typing this post. Two seconds later...it freezes. Damnit.

Finally started riding on an ambulance. Orientation was sucky and inaccurate. It's kind of weird to be riding the in the back of the ambulance again. It's even more weird cause I'm often the person doing the teaching at MIT now and that my "field training officer" has been an EMT for less than I've been one.

If it wasn't obvious before, working for MIT EMS rocks working for any other EMS. I mean...we seriously rock. Most BLS services use Type 2 "vanbulances". They are sucky and small. MIT EMS kicks ass riding around in a nice roomy Type 3 ambulance that are usually reserved for paramedic/ALS services. We also rock cause we handle actual emergencies and aren't just "transfer bitches". Not only that. BLS units in SD only carry two medications: oxygen and glucose. We get to carry albuterol nebulizers, ASA, epinephrine, and activated charcoal as well as oxygen and glucose. (By "we" I mean MIT EMS and by "they" I mean AMR and other services, cause I obviously feel more dedicated to MIT.)

Whatever...it's just a summer job.

Went with my bro to UCSD archery practice today after badminton. Many, I suck at it now. Haven't shot any arrows for almost a year. I think I was getting some skill back near the end of practice.

Arg...I think I hurt my arm playing badminton a week ago. Or it might just be that I'm playing too much. But for the past week, I haven't been able to do any hard hits without a bit of pain in my shoulder.

AMR emergency vehicle training is dumb. I mean...the talk about centrifugal force as if it were a real thing. Then, they talk about inertial...which is what dumb people believe is centrifugal force. Stupid dumbasses who made the video didn't realize that you only feel like you're "moving to the outside of the curve" because of inertia. Take a fricking high school physics course, dammit.

Arg...this stupid orientation is basically useless. I already know most of the stupid stuff they go over.

Like OSHA and HIPAA regulations...I've already had to sit through hours of boring classes about them in Boston. Sure it's useful for the other new people that haven't ever worked before, but why do I have to listen to it?

Today, some guy gave a talk about using stretchers and stair chairs. Again, useful for inexperienced people cause they don't teach it in the EMT training classes, but completely useless for me. I've even taught other people to use them before already.

To sum up: orientation is useless.

Offer letter from AMR finally arrived. Working as an EMT in SD is complicated compared to in Massachusetts. A bunch of additional certifications are needed and other crap.

Orientation next week...
