This Wednesday, the first two robotic assisted bariatric surgeries ever performed in New England were done at St E's. And I was there. Sweet. There's a picture of Dr. Pecquex, our clerkship director, through the arms of the robot.

Here's the robot in action.

Here's Dr. Claros at the console doing the first surgery.

Here's Dr. Pecquex again at the console during the second one.

And this is Dr. Anselm Wong. The resident that was assisting Dr. Pecquex and Dr. Claros. He's holding the stereoscopic camera. It takes video from two slightly different views. That way, when you look in at the console which has one view port for each eye, you get a sense of depth. Makes for the ability to make very precise work. Especially with the articulating laproscopic tools that the robot has.

Normally, I also scrub into the surgeries if I'm there. But it's pretty crowded in there, so it was better for me to assist in circulation and take cool pictures that they can use for presentations and promotional material.
